When a New Hampshire mom posted a picture of her 3-year-old toddler online, she was promptly arrested. Mom posted the picture as part of a GoFundMe account to help raise money in order to get sole custody of the boy. And it was all based on an insidious lie.
Since 20-year-old Taylier Tibbetts gave birth to her son, she has been in a tumultuous relationship with the boy’s father. She wanted custody so bad, she decided she’s break the law to do it.
In order to make the boy’s father look like trash, she falsified a police report that stated dad abused the toddler.
“SHE’S CLAIMING THAT I’VE BEEN ABUSIVE FOR THE LAST THREE YEARS. WE’VE BEEN IN THE COURT SYSTEM FOR THE LAST THREE YEARS FIGHTING FOR HIM,” BRANT CLARK, THE TODDLER’S FATHER, TOLD WMUR.
Besides creating the false report, Tibbetts used the same story to rile up pity so she could cash in on GoFundMe, where people donate to causes and people in need. She was asking strangers to give her money so she could hire a lawyer to take Clark to court and get custody of her son.
Tibbetts went all out. She posted pictures of what appeared to be her son with massive bruises on his torso.
Police quickly determined that Tibbetts used Photoshop to edit the photos and put bruises on the baby. They brought the law-breaking mother in to ask some questions and expose her charade.
Tibbetts isn’t the only parent to use her child as a pawn in a custody dispute. Unfortunately, it’s all too common.
